Becoming a Board Member of The Massachusetts Chapter of the A.G. Bell Association |

When we first got together to discuss the incorporation of the Massachusetts Chapter, we thought about ways parents, professionals and adults with child on-set of hearing loss should come together, why this was important, the purpose of the chapter, and the need to provide resources to professionals and families choosing spoken language as an option for their children diagnosed with hearing loss. In order to best meet the needs of our constituents and to answer these questions, we realized that the Chapter should embrace the interests of all members from different regions of Massachusetts. Thus, we seek a continuous flow of fresh ideas from people with different profiles. Serving a two-year term, directors become involved with activities that meet the needs of our membership.

Asking A.G. Bell members of Massachusetts to consider becoming a board of director of the Mass. Chapter is important so that our programs and services evolve to reflect the needs of our constituents. A commitment of two years is all that is necessary, and everyone should have a voice in how the chapter can be run. You are the members, and thus stakeholders in the chapter. Become involved!

The activities and programs offered through the chapter presently include:
- Bells Kids Mentor Program
- Sponsored Teen Events
- Annual Spring Conference
- September Kick Off
- Holiday Skate
- Newsletters
- Chapter Website - includes calendar of events, list of statewide and national resources, message board, etc.
|

In addition to our local chapter activities, national A.G. Bell Association provides many added benefits, including publications, outreach and advocacy programs, scholarships, national conventions, etc. As of January 2006, all members of national are automatically local chapter members of their resident state.

Every year we will elect 5 new directors to the board so that a revolving group of diverse and regional representative A.G. Bell members can participate in chapter activities. Nominations will be accepted through September of each year and elections will occur before the end of the year. A ballot will be included in the fall newsletter. The five new members elected to the board will participate in their first annual meeting end of January.

Nominations must be submitted in writing via mail or post by September of each year. Please include the person's name and contact information, and a statement about why you wish this person to be nominated. Nominees and board members must be members of the Alexander Graham Bell Association. Elections will occur in December.

Remember, if you personally are interested in serving as a board member for 2 years, please contact one of our board members to chat. Certainly any member is welcome to participate in the board meetings we hold only a few times during the year.
